Glass-Free Transparency Scanning
The Visible Difference
Scanning without an interfering pane of glass results in distortion free images, diminished light refraction,
and elimination of “Newton Rings” - those annoying and extremely hard-to-remove concentric circles that
result from scanning a transparency through a glass plate.
The image below illustrates the difference with and without glass. The image scanned without glass is clearly
superior - preserving all the detail, clarity and colour depth of the original transparency.
Newton Rings
An image retoucher’s nightmare, these
can take hours to remove and really cut
into your design schedules.
Fingerprints
These will show up frequently on your
scanner’s glass bed unless it is regularly
cleaned with special glass cleaner.
Dust and fine hair
These have a habit of appearing all too
often - even on freshly blown and
dusted film surfaces.
Scratches
Over time, it’s hard to avoid scratches
building up on glass. If the scratches are
on your film, glass-free scanning keeps
them to a minimum.
Picture Perfect
Glass-free scanning delivers a much clearer picture. Note the enhanced clar
-
ity and overall colour quality. As the film is scanned directly and not through a
glass pane, annoying Newton rings and distortions are nowhere to be seen.
Microtek has won more awards and has a history of more scanning innovations than anyone else in the desktop scanner industry.
